I am a layperson interested in doing my duty to my parents and country. I started as a science journalist not qualified in journalism; then as a communications adviser to set-up an information centre again with no qualification or experience in management; then as a researcher & designer in monitoring mechanisms with no socio-economic professional background and led an international organisation in Sri Lanka dealing with persons with mental illnesses, with no qualifications or experience in institutional management or mental health. The secret behind my success was "living with my work, in and out of my work station with 100% commitment and interest to learn."

My life taught me something simple… "Commitment and discipline (and not just the qualifications and experience) will help us achieve our life targets. A process of actions (and not just the plans) would make our dreams come true."

The idea of laymen's den sprouts initially with the aim to open avenues for laypersons committed to the development of our Nation. While many complain that our young generation have no clue about their role & have no commitment, with my experience working with them proved this a myth. Thus, we at laymen'sden thought we should open such avenues for youth wherever possible, leading them to understand their abilities, duties and commitments to their family, country and the world.
